Love at First Write: Romance Writing Contest 2026

Love at First Write is Storyrise’s 2026 romance first chapter contest, part of NovembeRISE, our November writing challenge. The Storytellers Foundation invites writers to develop a compelling opening, find encouragement through the Storyrise community, and take the next step with their work.

Bring us an opening that makes readers want more

The contest welcomes eligible young adult, new adult, and adult romance openings of up to 5,000 words. Entrants must be at least 18 and have an active Storyrise account. The submitted chapter must be low-spice or no-spice. English and bilingual writing that includes English are welcome. The submission deadline is November 30, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Early entry is $8 through October 31, and standard entry is $12 from November 1–30 for free Storyrise members. Active paid Storyrise members receive one free entry. Check the contest timeline for when chapter submissions open.

A chance to strengthen your writing and share your voice

The first-place package includes a cash prize, five years of Storyrise membership, a written chapter critique and private query consultation with literary agent Jackie Garcia-Morales, and a featured interview on The Storyteller’s Shelf Podcast. The cash total is still to be announced. Priority query consideration does not guarantee representation or publication. Winners are scheduled to be announced on February 14, 2027.
